50 Years in Mallorca with Ellis Jacobson

This Friday, 23 August sees the opening of the exhibition ELLIS JACOBSON | 50 YEARS IN MALLORCA  at Sa Tafona Gallery in La Residencia, Deia at 7:30pm.  The show will continue until 4th September from 10am – 10pm daily with the Artist Rep in attendance from 6pm.  Ellis Jacobson has lived permanently in Mallorca for 50 years.  Originally from San Diego, California, Jacobson studied art at The La Jolla Art School, La Académie Grande Chaumiere, Paris, Studio Hinna, Rome. 

Jacobson has exhibited extensively internationally including USA, UK, Switzerland, Germany and Italy, and has works on permanent display at the Long Beach Museum of Art, Yad VashemMuseum,Israel, Museo deArte Contemporaneo de Villafames, and the Consell de Mallorca amongst many others.  In 2004 Jacobson had a major retrospective exhibition at the Museo Solleric in Palma which attracted thousands of visitors and led to the production of a documentary about his life and art.Image

Ellis’s work explores the defining moments of 20th century art… surrealism, cubism, and abstract expressionism have all played a part in the evolution of his work.

 

Known for his abstract as well as for his figurative heads, Jacobson’s work exhibits the influences of theMallorcan landscape, light and culture. One of the rare artist exceptionally proficient in both abstract and figurative art Jacobson has two studio in Mallorca; one devoted to his figurative work and collages, and the other to pastels, oils, acrylics, watercolors and mixed media works, the studios are crammed with works in progress and materials: tubes of watercolor paint, jars of acrylic paints and boxes of pastel chalk.

This special exhibition at the Sa Tafona Gallery at La Residencia Hotel has been curated by Trixi Linick and reflects works from Jacobson’s private collection.
